During this course, we will take a global view of ancient history by looking through the lens of the literature and art produced by ancient peoples from across the world. Our view spanning from the invention of writing by the Sumerians around 3400 BCE to the fall of the Roman Empire in 476 AD, we will explore a medley of literary and artistic forms. Utilising what you learn, you will have the opportunity to create written and artistic pieces inspired by ancient works from Europe, the Near East, the Middle East, and the Far East.
Hannah Thorpe has a Classical Civilisation degree from the University of Warwick, and is currently teaching ancient history and English at The Perse School. She is passionate about ancient history being a subject which looks beyond just Greece and Rome, out to the rest of the world.
