Course Details – Stage Lighting

Age: 12-14

Monday, full day

A chance to take a look into the dark and murky world of lighting in Theatre. This one day focused course will go over both practical and creative elements of Stage Lighting, including focusing of units, elements of colour theory, how to program a lighting desk, and more. You will work alongside theatre professionals, using state of the art equipment as you learn best industry practice. This course is designed so as to be of benefit to all from complete novices to those looking to expand their existing skills and knowledge, and would most benefit those with a keen interest in technical theatre.

Course Details – Theatre Sound and AV

Age: 12-14

One two, one two, can you hear me? This one day focussed course will go over both practical and creative elements of Theatre Sound, as well as looking at the ways we can use projection and other AV technology to enhance a performance. It will cover multiple aspects of both, including microphone balancing and placement, elements of sound editing, how to operate a sound desk, how to set up and sequence projection, and more. You will work alongside theatre professionals, using state of the art equipment as you learn best industry practice. This course is designed so as to be of benefit to all from complete novices to those looking to expand their existing skills and knowledge, and would most benefit those with a keen interest in technical theatre.

Tutor Profile

Pete Kingsman is the Technical Manager at the Peter Hall Performing Arts Centre, leading the technical side of the theatre and its productions as well as being involved with the school’s Technical Theatre Club. Pete has a degree in Theatre Practice: Technology and Production Management from the Central School of Speech and Drama. He has worked for a number of venues and institutes nationwide over the past 12 years. These include the Queen’s Theatre in Hornchurch and Curve in Leicester as well as Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance and the National Centre for Circus Arts in London.

Mel Kirwan is the Technician at the Peter Hall Performing Arts Centre, assisting with the technical side of the theatre and its productions as well as being involved with the school’s Technical Theatre Club. Mel has a degree in Performance Technologies and Production from the Guildford School of Acting and has worked freelance with companies such as the Royal Shakespeare Company and The National Theatre.
