Age 7-10 & 11-14
Summer is an excellent time to get out and about on the water and have a go at messing about in boats. That’s exactly what we will be doing on this course. Spending time in and on canoes, kayaks and paddleboards, you will get the opportunity to learn new techniques and develop your skills. You don’t need to have any prior watersports experience to take part other than a willingness to have a go and get wet!
We will start the week with the basic skills needed to move your craft on the water (with plenty of more challenging tasks for anyone who has done it before) and progress through to look at the finer skills required of a seasoned paddler. We will also cover rescue skills in both craft to ensure that everyone is safe and can help each other back into their boats. Of course, there will be lots of opportunities to play games and explore, which can lead to people going for an unplanned swim so watch out!
Participants, over a full week, are expected to gain* the following awards, inclusive within the course fees;
- British Canoeing : Start or Discover Award
- British Standup Paddleboard Association : Ready to Ride Award
* subject to meeting the required standards of personal competency
