Arts & Design: Creative Bookbinding – Week 1

Have you ever wondered how to make your own journal, sketchbook or artistic hand-bound gift? This course will give you the chance to learn the process of book-binding; exploring traditional methods such as pamphlet, Coptic and Japanese binding, creating concertinas, and soft and hard-bound books. There will be opportunities to creatively explore artistic skills such as collage, embroidering into paper, drawing or any other contribution of yours to create a book of your own design to keep.

Just bring your creative side! All book-binding tools and materials will be provided.​

Covid-19 Update

In order to try and manage the risks in this course, pupils will have their own ‘area’ with a basket of equipment which won’t have to be shared, any equipment which must be shared will be wiped down with antiseptic wipes when there is a change of user and any large equipment will be operated by the tutor/assistant tutors and regularly wiped down with antiseptic wipes.

Tutor Profile

Rebecca Bennett is a Design Technology teacher at the Perse Upper School, and came from a career in the creative industry and education. She has a Fine Art degree from the University of Leeds, and spent her third year studying Art and Design in Milan, Italy, where she developed skills including mosaic design, paper-making, bookbinding, ceramics and silver-smithing. She has delivered creative summer workshops for young people at the British Film Institute in London and is passionate about helping students explore their creativity, through a variety of artistic media and techniques.
