Students will learn basketball fundamentals covering ball handling, passing, shooting, individual attacking, individual defending, team defence and team offence, all sanctioned by British Basketball. They will also have the opportunity to develop transferable skills such as learning the value of teamwork, handling pressure and a competitive work ethic in a focused and disciplined environment. The basketball fundamentals course is a great way of learning to play basketball and is open to those with little or no experience of the game as well as to those with some experience who will have the opportunity to enhance their skills.
Tutor Profiles
Clinton Wedderburn is employed as a basketball and athletics coach at The Perse Upper School. He is a Level 3 Basketball England qualified coach who has played both in local and national league fixtures for Ipswich and Colchester basketball clubs. While serving with Colchester basketball he represented England against Harvard University. Coach Wedderburn is the Head Junior Coach of Cambridge Cats Basketball where he has spent 23 years working with and developing junior players and teams 13 – 18 years old to play in the Basketball England National League. He is also a junior Cambridgeshire county coach who has been the guiding figure in the development of many individual players that have made the transition from club to university basketball in UK and USA colleges.
Josh Marlow currently oversees the implementation of strength & conditioning at The Perse Upper School. In previous positions, Josh has provided strength and conditioning support for teams and athletes alike over East Anglia and is a keen basketball player himself. He holds both a BSc and MSc in Strength & Conditioning Science, amongst level one coaching and refereeing certificates with Basketball England. Josh has a keen interest in the development of the student athlete, and in particular to basketball, having been his lifelong passion.
Nicky Bareham is currently Head of Year 7, PE Co-Ordinator and Assistant Head of Hockey at The Perse Upper School. She holds a BSc Hons degree in Sports Science and Biology and has taught biology, PE and games at The Upper and Prep School for the past 9 years. She holds Level 2 coaching certificates in swimming and hockey as well as a level 1 certificate in basketball.
